Food Pantry
An onsite food pantry was opened to increase access to nutritious food for low-income immigrant and minority families in the Central Region. Each week, the clinic purchases food from Feeding America and San Diego Food Bank and volunteers sort, bag, and dispense it free to low-income patients accessing clinic services. Over the past five years, the pantry has grown from distributing approximately 919 bags of groceries a year to 3,000 in 2010, reaching over 24,000 recipients since the program was started.
