Breast Health Education and Early Detection Program
La Maestra Community Health Centers has partnered with the Cancer Detection Program: Every Woman Counts to ensure that every woman in this state has access to breast health services. The program provides free breast and cervical screenings for low-income women residing in California, who are 40 years or older, and that have no insurance or are under-insured.
La Maestra’s early breast cancer detection program utilizes the Promotora model to outreach and educate women at community events, faith-based and educational institutions that might not otherwise receive breast health education or be screened.
In addition, La Maestra has a new Diagnostic Medical Imaging center in City Heights located in the first floor of the clinic. The center is opened every day, so patients can come in for their clinical breast exam (CBE) and have their mammogram done on the same day!
Patients can go to any of our clinics located throughout
San Diego County for their clinical breast exam:
City Heights Clinic: 4060 Fairmount Ave. San Diego, 92105
Lemon Grove Clinic: 7967 Broadway Ave. Lemon Grove, 91945
National City Clinic: 217 Highland Ave. National City, CA 91950
El Cajon Clinic: 165 S. First Street. El Cajon, 92019
*La Maestra’s Breast Health Education program is funded by San Diego affiliate of Susan G Komen for cure a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and ending breast cancer forever.
Studies have demonstrated that early breast cancer
detection may increase options for treatment and survival.
The American Cancer Society recommends women age 40 and older have a mammogram and a clinical breast exam by a health professional every year for as long as they are in good health. Women in their 20's and 30's should have a CBE as part of a periodic health exam every 3 years, and breast self-examination (BSE) for women starting their 20s. Women should report any breast changes to their health professional right away.
