Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor of the Department of Nursing at La Maestra Community Health Centers plays a vital role in managing the nursing staff within the Department of Nursing, which includes the above listed locations. This position requires collaboration with multiple departments to oversee nursing operations, maintain compliance with policies and procedures, and ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care. This role involves direct patient care and administrative responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Implementing the training plans established by the Director(s) of Nursing (DON) for new hires to ensure their successful onboarding.
  • Acting as the first line of contact for the floor RNs and floor management, addressing their questions and concerns promptly.
  • Escalating significant concerns to the DON(s) for further resolution.
  • Ensuring that floor nurses conduct themselves appropriately, adhere to policies and procedures, and positively represent the Department of Nursing.
  • Overseeing and coordinating various training projects or competency testing as requested by Quality Department and the DON(s).

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the documentation of emergency kits, master inventories/expiries, and maintaining accurate records in the 340B binders.
  • Coordinating Mock Code Blue for all departments and ensuring all necessary protocols are followed.
  • Providing insights into policies, procedures, and workflows to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Correcting or delegating the correction of action items identified in monthly audits received from the Quality department.
  • Assisting the DON(s) with the recruitment and hiring process, which may involve participating in interviews or reviewing applications.
  • Attending meetings requested by the DON(s) to stay informed about departmental updates and contribute to decision-making processes.
  • Assisting the DON(s) with 90-day new hire reviews, mid-year reviews, and annual reviews as requested.

Scheduling Responsibilities:

  • If requested, collaborating with DON team to coordinate last-minute call-outs by arranging appropriate coverage to maintain adequate staffing levels.
  • Collaborating with trained nurses to adjust their assignments and ensure proper patient care during last-minute changes or emergencies.
  • Providing support to understaffed departments when necessary, ensuring patient safety and quality of care.

On-Call Responsibilities:

  • Being available for after-hours on-call duties, with a stipend of $200 per shift plus 1.5 hours of pay per call.
  • Minimum of 2 shifts per month as the primary on-call RN and 1 as the secondary on-call RN.

Job Requirements:

Education Required: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.  Bachelor of Science degree preferred.

Certification required: Valid CA Registered Nurse License.  Valid CPR certification.

Experience: Two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Verbal and Written Skills to perform the job: Bilingual preferred. Familiarity with basic word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Accurate on keyboarding skills.

Technical knowledge and skills required to perform the job: Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and the demonstrated ability to work with diverse individuals and groups. Demonstrate high levels of self-initiation and direction. Knowledge of communities we serve. Knowledge and experience working in medical settings and interacting collaboratively with medical teams. Skill in analyzing situations and making timely decisions.
