Dr. Mario Salguero, MD-PHD<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Salguero is a board-certified Addiction Psychiatrist that has been with La Maestra since 2018. After earning his MD-PhD at the University of Guadalajara, he completed a residency\u00a0in the Neuropsychiatry & Behavioral Medicine Unit at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).\u00a0Mario completed his Psychiatry Residency at the University of California at San Diego, where he received, the \u201cBest Resident Clinician\u201d award three years in a row and the prestigious \u201cLewis L. Judd\u201d Research Award for his research in implementing a mindfulness self-compassion intervention for residents. Dr. Salguero is dedicated to expanding linguistically and culturally competent mental health services for the underserved in San Diego.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Substance Abuse<\/strong>
In 2016, the organization also established the Wellness Supportive Services (WSS) Department based in the HOPE Clinic for the homeless. All patients, not exclusively homeless patients and their families have access to individual and group counseling as well as medication-assisted treatment (MAT) from the department\u2019s certified substance abuse counselors and addiction psychiatrist. La Maestra provides MAT using evidence-based, FDA-approved Buprenorphine, Vivitrol, and Sublocade treatment. For patients in need of inpatient psychiatric treatment, La Maestra refers to its collaborative partners Acadia Healthcare, McAlister Institute, and Mental Health Systems.<\/p>\n

WSS has experienced tremendous growth in recent years. In 2019, the California Youth Opioid Response (YOR) funded La Maestra\u2019s expansion of services to include pediatric and adolescent addiction treatment, including psychiatry, counseling, and MAT for Transitional Age Youth (TAY) ages 12 to 24. Most recently, the organization received funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to stabilize people in crisis by increasing access to comprehensive behavioral services including Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) by working with the existing established county-wide network to provide: 24\/7 crisis intervention services for individuals with serious mental illness (SMI) or SUD patients, including opioid use disorders; children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbance (SED); and individuals with co-occurring mental and substance disorders (COD).<\/p>\n
