Summary:
The Associate Director of Nursing at La Maestra Community Health Centers works closely with the Director of Nursing to oversee the development, implementation, and compliance of nursing policies, quality improvement efforts (in coordination with the Medical Director), the coordination of RN staffing, and professional development for the nursing staff of the organization. This role plays a pivotal part in maintaining quality improvement efforts, coordinating RN staffing, and fostering professional development for the nursing staff. The Associate Director of Nursing ensures the delivery of effective nursing services while upholding quality standards.
Responsibilities (are not limited to):
· Collaborate with the Director of Nursing to ensure effective coordination of all nursing staff, ensuring quality standards are met.
· Develop and maintain a supportive environment for nursing staff, providing professional support, training, and supervision.
· Assist in the development, implementation, and compliance of nursing policies and quality improvement efforts, actively monitoring practices for effectiveness.
· Participate in the design and implementation of new department programs and clinical offerings, reflecting evolving patient needs.
· Coordinate staffing, including involvement in the interviewing and hiring process of new RN staff.
· Oversee training and skills maintenance of nursing staff.
· Communicate pertinent information to direct reports and management staff in a timely manner.
· Monitor RN staffing levels across various nursing departments, adjusting schedules as necessary to meet service demands.
· Support and promote the mission, vision, and values of LMCHC, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
· Identify problems and develop feasible solutions within the scope of responsibility.
· Ensure availability and functionality of necessary equipment and supplies for patient care.
· Facilitate orientation of new employees to department policies, procedures, and duties.
· Conduct equitable and timely performance evaluations for RN staff, providing feedback and support as needed.
· Address personnel issues effectively to promote a healthy work environment.
· Perform Registered Nursing functions when necessary, meeting or exceeding standards (see Registered Nursing Job Description and Competency Assessment).
· Utilize relevant machines, equipment, and computer programs effectively in performing assigned work.
· Stay current with mandatory training requirements, professional licenses, and certifications.
· Maintain security and safety protocols for supervised employees.
· Demonstrate understanding of different age groups and populations to provide effective care. Understands the normal growth and development for each age group, the different communication needs (changing communication methods and terminology accordingly), and understands the different safety risks for each age group and alters the patient’s care and environment accordingly.
· Maintain effective communication and relationships with employees and patients.
· Attend staff meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
Certification required: Current and active CA Registered Nurse License, current valid CPR/ACLS Certification.
Experience: 5 years’ experience in clinical nursing, preferably in a community health center setting; 2-3 years’ supervisory experience preferred.
Verbal and Written Skills to perform the job: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Familiarity with basic word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Accurate keyboarding skills.
Technical knowledge and skills required to perform the job: Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and the demonstrated ability to work with diverse individuals and groups. Demonstrate high levels of self-initiation and direction. Knowledge of communities we serve. Knowledge and experience working in medical settings and interacting collaboratively with medical teams. Skill in analyzing situations and making timely decisions.
Physical and Mental Requirements: Work involves sitting, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.
