La Maestra Foundation

La Maestra Foundation (LMF) is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) established in 2005 in San Diego, California. The mission of the La Maestra Foundation is to provide and support advocacy and community services that improve the overall well-being of low-income, culturally diverse individuals and families in San Diego and guide them along the path to self-sufficiency. La Maestra develops and integrates a variety of social services that are essential for low-income, underserved youth and adults to be healthy and thrive.

Services include affordable housing assistance; transitional housing; microcredit loans; microenterprise assistance; financial literacy and job training placement; computer skills training; youth education and leadership; Healthy Choices Food Pantry; a community garden; arts and other vocational skills classes. All services are integrated into La Maestra’s holistic Circle of Care™ model to address clients’ unique health and well-being needs through referrals to comprehensive services.

La Maestra Foundation’s key initiatives include:

Advocacy for underrepresented, low-income, and culturally diverse populations in our neighborhoods.

Provision of resources for micro-enterprises, including financial literacy education and start-up loans.

Advocacy for and creation of safe affordable housing and job training and employment opportunities for individuals and families throughout San Diego County.

Acquisition, rehabilitation and management of single-family and multi-family housing for rent to low- to moderate-income individuals and families throughout San Diego County.

Commitment to cultural competence throughout integrated services.

Sustainability through diverse funding sources, internal fund development, and business development (microenterprises) to provide additional resources.
