Carmen Kcomt – Director of Legal Advocacy
Carmen Kcomt has been working as the Director of Legal Advocacy at La Maestra since November 2011. Originally from Peru, Kcomt served as a Magistrate for 10 years and holds a Master’s degree in International Law of Human Rights. Additionally, Carmen has participated in the Citizens’ Academy twice, once with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department and another with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This gave her a unique, behind-the-scenes look at how our local and national criminal justice systems operate when providing case management services to clients.
Located in 4135 Fairmount, our International Human Trafficking Program is one of the largest nationwide. Our specialty is to serve victims of sex and labor trafficking as well as victims of domestic violence. We also are a welcoming program for individuals of the LGBTQ + communities.
You may qualify for the program if:
- You have been forced to perform sexual acts
- You are working for free/very little pay
- You have been threatened if you try to leave
- You were forced to work excessive hours or in bad conditions
- You were tricked or misled into your current work
We do not act as an attorneys , we will help you to identify your rights as a victim
